eNvolution 1.2.5 install.txt v. 1.2 (26.06.2003) UPGRADE read after... To install Envolution 1.2.5 simply unpack the contents of the compressed file you downloaded and then copy it to a visible folder of your web server (the root directory of the web server is good). So that eNvolution works perfectly, for safety's sake again the system environment should be examined. For this we support the tool "envocheck.php" in the install folder. The following settings in httpd.conf and/or php.ini are momentarily COMPELLING: ** SAFE_MODE -> OFF ** REGISTER_GLOBALS -> ON ** OPEN_BASEDIR -> keep empty, or link to the eNvolution root folder (here it is possible to fit several entries separated with ';') On LINUX/UNIX platforms * chmod 666 all the files that are in the /config dir. * chmod 666 config.php in your root dir. * chmod 777 to the directory config * chmod 777 to the directory xcache and all subdirectories. * chmod 777 to the directory upload and all subdirectories. * chmod 777 to the directory images/avatar/personal. Remember: eNvolution make all necessary changements automatically, but maybe if you need to work manually all configuration information are stored in: /config folder env-config.php for eNvolution configuration dl-config.php for download configuration wl-config.php for web links configuration rte-config.php for editor configuration Then starts your web browser and go to: http://www.your.url.goes.here/your.path.goes.here/install.php and follow the simple directions for installation or upgrades. New installation: This is well-known-measured most unproblematically, because no earlier version was installed. The database is completely build, if the hook for "create the Database" is set. With UNIX/LINUX environments there can be here however problems, because not each user has write permissions in the MySQL database. Either a user for the installation must be selected here, which also has root-permissions on the database, or you have to create the database manually e.g. with phpMyAdmin (then no hook may be set naturally). You can leave the database empty. The installation procedure provide all the tables automatically. (X)-Upgrade (from a previous eNvo version, Postnuke or phpNuke): In principle applies: NEVER simply copy the new files over an existing installation. Since with each version also folder and file names could be renamed, or (because no more needed) easily missing, it could be possible that "dead files" will be remaining, which could produce heavy problems. Copy as already above mentioned the unpacked files into a new, empty sub-folder. ABSOLUTELY recommended to backup the database before (e.g. with phpMyAdmin). The prior system can be selected over "Upgrade", from which you would like to upgrade. Subsequently, the data base is brought on the newest (eNvolution -) conditions and the contents are updated. Only the parts of the data base are changed, where there are also differences and those are system relevant. The Upgrade procedure checks this before each recording procedure. In addition, tables are not touched which are not needed by the standard eNvolution distribution. and for phpNuke applies: This system differs substantially from Postnuke and eNvolution. Blocks, modules and functions written for phpNuke are not as far as possible applicable with eNvolution. At the safest one a upgrade runs over an standard phpNuke installation. Please absolutely examine the own installation, a complete backup (files and data base) accomplish, all not needed parts (modules, blocks) deinstall and remove. With the search for suitable replacement for necessary additional modules and blocks for eNvolution our support team can help you. Consider: This updated system is now no more executable with the earlier, old installation. After successful Installation/Upgrade you can copy modules, blocks, static documents, images, etc. after personal conceptions into the appropriate folders and activate them. Now eNvolution, when you install or upgrade, write a log file located in /config/install_log.txt, eNvo write all steps of your installation/upgrade, so please, if you have any trouble copy contents of this file and paste it in our support forum, so we can help you better. Remember to cancell the install.php file and all the install directory. Their presence permit to other people to see the password you used to connect to the database. -- TiMax aka Massimiliano Tiraboschi -- Romeo aka cino -- WindMeUp aka Stefan Koehler Envolution Staff [v1.0 26.06.2003]
